A GALACTIC SPECTACLE

The Antennae galaxies, located about 62 million light years from Earth, are shown in this composite image from NASA's Great Observatories--the Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue), the Hubble Space Telescope (gold and brown), and the Spitzer Space Telescope (red). The Antennae galaxies take their name from the long antenna-like "arms," seen in wide-angle views of the system. These features were produced by tidal forces generated in the collision.

The collision, which began more than 100 million years ago and is still occurring, has triggered the formation of millions of stars in clouds of dusts and gas in the galaxies. The most massive of these young stars have already sped through their evolution in a few million years and exploded as supernovas.

SENILE OLD FOOL

...and this is the face of the republican party.

GOIN' TO THE DOGS

"YOU MAY SAY I'M A DREAMER"

"At Public School 22 in Staten Island, NY, a choir of fifth graders created worldwide buzz...." -- Oprah Winfrey
Thoroughly proud to present the video premiere from the PS22 Chorus of 2011, putting a new spin on the John Lennon classic, "Imagine." I don't think any of my choruses in all the years previous has put forth a more solid debut in such a short amount of time! Harmonies are tight, the feeling is there, and this group is ready to rawwwwk!! This was filmed today at only the 2nd rehearsal with the full group. Azaria delights with her unique instrument and pitch-perfect delivery on the solo, and Mr. Eberle adds that extra magic touch guesting on the acoustic guitar. So it's safe to say, 2011's IN DA HOUSE -- and it's bound to be quite a year!

SAILING THE BEACH CIRCA 1900

DUETTO BUFFO DI DUE GATTI

The piece is typically attributed to Gioachino Rossini, it was not actually written by him, but is instead a compilation written in 1825 that draws principally on his 1816 operaOtello. The compiler was likely the English composer Robert Lucas de Pearsall, who for this purpose used the pseudonym "G. Berthold".

AND ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND

An ant mill is a phenomenon where a small group of army ants separated from the main foraging party lose the pheromone track and begin to follow one another, forming a continuously rotating circle. The ants will eventually die of exhaustion. This has been reproduced in laboratories and the behaviour has also been produced in ant colony simulations. This phenomenon is a side effect of the self-organizing structure of ant colonies.
An ant mill was first described by William Beebe who observed a mill 1,200 feet (365 m) in circumference. It took each ant 2.5 hours to make one revolution.
November 1938. "Truck carrying movie poster. Omaha, Nebraska." 35mm nitrate negative by John Vachon for the Resettlement Administration. Perhaps this movie might be used against
Proposition 19 a California ballot initiative  on the November 2, 2010 California statewide ballot. It legalizes various marijuana-related activities, allows local governments to regulate these activities, permits local governments to impose and collect marijuana-related fees and taxes, and authorizes various criminal and civil penalties. As of September 2010, even if the proposition is passed, the sale of marijuana will remain illegal under federal law via the Controlled Substances Act.

MOVIN' TO MONTANA SOON?

Frank Zappa's 1970's song would certainly not be good advice today!
At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.
The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.
The fact that it's still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party's own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.
"I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."
