What has become one of the most visable symbols, along with the Golden Gate Bridge, of THE CITY BY THE BAY was ironically built nearly on top of one of the ships that brought the gold miners to California. During excavation for new construction a stones throw away, fragments of the ship Nintanic were discovered including bottles of French champagne. These artifacts are exhibited at the National Maritime Museum in Aquatic Park.
