A HENKEL TREASURE

This fantastic shelf is by famed naturalist and illustrator Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), and can be found at Haeckel's former home (now a museum), the Villa Medusa. The decoration was applied using a technique known as pyrography, which had a bit of a revival during the Arts & Crafts movement.
